RICHEY JAMES EDWARDS
Name:
Richard James Edwards
Date of Birth: December 22nd 1967
Birthplace: Tredegar, S. Wales
School: Oakdale Comprehensive
Position in band: Lyricist, Guitar
Influences: George Orwell, Albert Camus, and many other
writers and poets.
Richey had lyrical duties with Nicky;but the two did work together for
songs. Richey slowly became more and more independent, with the his last
album, 'THE HOLY BIBLE' being mostly his work. He became darker and was getting
more personnal, something found hard to relate to. His tales of anorexia (4st7lb),
prostitution of the self (Yes), and immense personal torment (Die In The
Summertime), are just a few examples of how he made 'The Holy Bible' one of the darkest
records of all time.
Richey is a very intelligent man, studying at university along with Nicky. His
style of writing is very unique and this comes from influences like Orwell and
Camus aswell as other quotes and ideologies. He was not a very open person to
talk to expressing his feelings through his lyrics and interviews.
Richey was also a second guitarist for the group, but he could hardly
play guitar, and made very little contributions to music of the group,
though you could say that his lyrics inspired how the song should sound. When on
stage he would play very quietly but it was just him being there that made it so
special. Richey was the soul of the group, inspiring originality and the
driving force. He is an icon.
Sadly Richey disappeared on February 1st 1995 and has not been seen since. He had suffered badly with his health, mainly self abuse. He decided it was all to much and finally decided to do what he wanted.
